Located less than 10 minutes from Arroyo Seco, the Taos Pueblo is Americas oldest community. Nearly 1000 years old, the Spanish believed it to be one of the Golden Cities
of Cibola when they came upon it in 1540. The walls are several feet thick, made entirely of adobe, an earth/water/straw mixture poured into brick forms and sun dried.
Currently, 150 Tiwa-speaking Native Americans inhabit the pueblo, down from as many as 2,000 residents ten years ago.
